The Folsom State Recreation Area is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills about 25 miles east of Sacramento. Folsom Lake was created in 1955 by Folsom Dam. Nimbus and Folsom Dams control the waters of the American River and provide flood protection, power and irrigation. Visitors enjoy water skiing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, nature studies, camping and picnicking. The mounted assistance unit patrols approximately 70 miles of trail and are the eyes and ears of the rangers. The proceeds the patrol receives from the sale of the maps will go to improving and maintaining the trails & staging areas in the FSRA.
